Teams

The Austin Blacks field four full men's squads, competing across all four divisions of USA Rugby and the Red River Rugby Conference. In 2023, our D1 and D3 sides both won national championships — the only time in recent history a single club claimed titles across multiple divisions in the same season. In 2024, D3 did it again.

Premier - Division 1

About
The Austin Blacks D1 side is the club's flagship team, competing at the highest level of American club rugby. The Premier side has reached the USA Rugby National Championship final multiple times since 2000, claimed the D1 national title in 2023, and has been D1 Texas Champions 17 of the last 20 years. Players on this side include some of the most experienced rugby talent in Texas, as well as international players who have made Austin their rugby home.

Competition
The D1 side competes in the Texas Rugby Union (TRU) and the Red River Rugby Conference (RRRC), with the top finishers advancing to the USA Rugby National Playoffs.

Division 2

About
The D2 side is the Blacks' second competitive men's team, offering high-level rugby for players developing toward Premier or returning to the game after a break. Since becoming eligible for national playoffs in 2010, the D2 side has finished in the top 8 nationally every single season — a remarkable run of consistent excellence. The Blacks have sent multiple sides to the Round of 16 simultaneously, a first in American club rugby.

Division 3

About
The Blacks' third side is a national championship program in its own right. With national titles in 2018, 2019, 2023, and 2024, the D3 side has been one of the most dominant teams in the country over the last decade. For players new to competitive rugby, returning from injury, or looking for a high-quality game without the Premier-level commitment, D3 is the right home.
