Austin Blacks through to National 7s Finals
July 17, 2014

The Austin Blacks have clinched the lone Red River berth at Nationals by winning the second Red River qualifier in Tulsa, Okla. Saturday. With two Cup victories in as many qualifiers, the Blacks have wrapped up the region with a tournament still to play. The pools, which were based on seeding from the first qualifier,…

Why tomorrow matters…
May 2, 2014

Gentlemen, After Bill’s lighthearted take on last weekend’s performance, I’d like to add some serious points about the Austin Blacks in 2014. Tane asked me to speak to you tonight about what this weekend will mean for our organization. I’ll still do that. But just in case my words are slurring, let me take a few…

Weekend of death Vs Woodlands and Reds
April 15, 2014

What’s better than spending Saturday at rugby and having the old ball & chain hassling you about not doing housework? You guessed it. Spending Saturday and Sunday at Burr field enjoying the sunshine and squelching on your husbandly responsibilities. Sometimes life is good. Sometimes the gods smile on us.

The 'Dave Pena' effect
March 27, 2014

Another week at Burr Field and another excellent round of wins by the Austin Rugby club. Barely a month ago, both teams had traveled to Houston to play a very tough couple of games against HARC. On that long day, Austin came away with two tough victories. Short on numbers and players in key positions,…

A family conundrum
March 17, 2014

This week saw the Austin Rugby Club successful in both grades with the Division 1 team handily taking apart Fort Worth in what was a tough game to watch in many respects. Let’s be honest, here’s only so many times you can see Ron Nicks bumble his way across the white line before you turn…

Honoring the Veterans of Austin Rugby
November 11, 2013

It’s Veterans Day today and while we want to thank all the veterans that have served our country and fought for our freedom, we wanted to honor a special few veterans that also sacrifice for their teammates on the rugby pitch. The Austin Rugby Club has a long history of ruggers with proud military service…
